San Beda Red Lions Withstood College of St. Benilde's Late Run En Route To A Big Win!

    By Kristina Caramel Sy

The San Beda Red Lions clawed pass the College of Saint Benilde Blazers with a final score of 59-53, for their 1st match-up in the NCAA Season 88.

Kyle Pascual aided his squad to bounce back to the top after they suffered a loss against the Perpetual Help Altas via his 12 points and 7 rebounds.

The CSB Blazers were trying to keep in step with the SBC Red Lions as Lastimosa, the heart of the Blazers, exploded in the 3rd quarter that trimmed their deficit down and eventually tally their 1st lead in the match, 41-43. That was the score at the end of the 3rd.

However, the Boys from Mendiola produced a 13-4 run in the first 5 minutes of the 4th Quarter making the score, 50-45, in favor of San Beda. That run kept them afloat amidst the threat of the rampaging Blazers.

Carlo Lastimosa, the fourth quarter man, delivered in the last 2 minutes of the 4th. Cutting down further their deficit to just 3 points, 54-51. That prompted the Red Lions to stop him. With the lost of CSB's big man, Tan, who was tagged with an unsportsmanlike foul and Ongteco, who got his 5th foul, barred the Blazers from beating the defending Champions. And also, Caram and Dela Rosa made clutch freethrows that staved off CSB from tying the ball game.

Coach Magsanoc stated on the post game interview, "I believe that those who are able to execute in the end and those who stay composed, they will be the ones who will come out on top."

With this win, the Red Lions forced a four-way tie at 3-1 in the team standings.
