San Sebastian Stags Beat Arellano Chiefs in NCAA Season 87 Basketball Game

Calvin Abueva is proving that coach Louie Alas' statement saying that he's the best player in the NCAA right now is true. He just showed his all-around style of playing basketball against the hapless Arellano University Chiefs. He didn't only score a lot but he also threw crispy passes to his open teammates. He led the Stags in beating the Chiefs, 92-79 using his triple double output of 18 points, 10 assists and 13 rebounds. He's showing not only to the NCAA fans but also to the PBA scouts that he can play both the small forward and the shooting guard positions.

Many thrilling moments happened in this game such as the 2 dunks of Ronald Pascual and the triple double output of San Sebastian, but to cut the long story short, just take a look at the scoring per quarter of this game: 22-12, 40-32, 59-54 and 92-79. You can validly say that the Stags dominated this game against the Chiefs right from the 1st quarter up to the 4th quarter.

In the 1st quarter, the Stags jump started a 22-12 run courtesy of Ronald Pascual who at the end of the game had a total of 27 points to lead all scorers. But the Chiefs didn't give up that easily. They also made a 10-4 run in the second quarter courtesy of their versatile big man Gerald Lapuz. Lapuz was able to cut the Stags' lead down to 5 points, 30-25, in the last 5 minutes of the 2nd quarter. But the Stags steady point guard made a back breaking three pointer that increased their lead to 8 points, 40-32 at the end of the 2nd quarter.

In the 3rd quarter, the Pinatubo Twins ignited a 7-2 run for the Stags that increased their lead, 47-34. But the former PCCR High School superstar, Adrian Celada nailed a 3-pointer for the Chiefs that made the score closer, 49-43 at the 4:30 mark of the 3rd quarter. At the end of the 3rd quarter, the Stags' lead went down to 3 points, 57-54.

In the 4th and final quarter, the Stags finally found the run that they've searching for all throughout this game. They were able to score 21 points in the first 6 minutes of the 4th quarter while the Chiefs were committing several turnovers. Those turnovers literally gave the win to the Stags. Thus, the Stags now have a 7-0 win-loss record while the Chiefs continue to slide down in the Standings.
