Asi Taulava Suspended For Smart Gilas in Their Game Against Korea on Wednesday?
The 6'9 substitute center of the Smart Gilas Pilipinas is in danger of being suspended in their next game against the very strong Korean National Team tomorrow after he punched the 6'6 player of Malaysia named Yun Jing Shuan, the player who's wearing the number 14 jersey.
The commentators in AKTV Channel 13 said that the Malaysian pinched and twisted the groin of Asi in the 7 secs. mark of the 3rd quarter. Asi immediately retaliated. He gave the Malaysian a 1-2 punch, 1 left hook punch and 1 right hook punch. Fortunately those strong punches didn't fall directly on the face of the Malaysian. With the weight and height of Asi, I'm sure those punches will knock him down if ever those punches fell directly on his face, but thankfully they didn't.
The coaching staff of Malaysia were saying that there should be no space for punching in the Jones Cup. But they missed the fact that their player was the one who hit first. And, to think that when Asi got up after his groin was pinched the Malaysian player expected the punches of Asi that's why he was able to dodge them. That means he knew that he hurt Asi and that he knew that Asi was gonna fight back. As you can see, he's also guilty.
Asi was immediately ejected by the referees after he threw those punches on the face of the Malaysian. As a result, Asi didn't play in the 4th quarter. The angry Coach Rajko was forced to insert Jason Ballesteros into the game. I was told that he doesn't want to insert Marcus because he's afraid that the Koreans might be able to scout him that's why he opted to use Ballesteros. But then again, he has no choice because Asi was ejected.
I just don't know if Asi will also be suspended in their next game against the very strong Korean Team tomorrow. But according to Mr. Jason Webb, before, an ejection from an international game doesn't merit an automatic 1 game suspension. I'm hoping that, that will be the law of the case for Asi because Gilas needs him against Korea tomorrow. But then again, Gilas was leading the game at the third quarter, against Malaysia. Asi shouldn't have done that.
