Letran, La Salle, and Ateneo Notched Victories in FilOil Pre Season Cup 2013 Basketball League

By Kristina Caramel Sy

Letran Knights toppled the SWU Cobras to mark their first win in the FilOil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup, 78-68.

Rey Nambatac who came from the Letran Squires stood up for the Knights via his 16 points and 4 steals. He was assisted by the sophomore Mcjour Luib who listed 13 points and 7 rebounds.

The seniors Mark Cruz and Raymond Almazan made their crucial shots to maintain their double-digit lead as they scored 22 points combined that pressured the big guys of the Cobras to take quick shots.

Landry Sanjo of the Cobras seemed very efficient on his defense and offense under the basket as he led his squad via his 17 points while Monbert Arong challenged Cruz of the Knights as he shot enormous treys that tied the scores with the Knights.

But the Knights rose to the challenge and established a good enough lead to beat the Cobras in the latter part of the game.

Coach Caloy Garcia of the Knights admitted that he needs the other guys to step up since he was looking for someone who can fill the void that was left by his supposed to be key players.

Another NCAA team, the San Sebastian Golden Stags failed to register their 2nd win in the league against the mighty DLSU Green Archers who are riding on the crest of their momentum.

The Green Archers are now 3-0 in the league after they defeated San Sebastian, 90-74.

Jeron Teng and Gab Reyes made the Stags suffer as they unleashed 30 points combined.

The Stags seemed to be having a good performance in the 1st quarter as they produced a 12-0 run in the first 3 mins. of the game. They were able to establish their first lead of the game against the Green Archers, 19-14.

But, the Taft boys never gave the Stags another opportunity to get the lead in the remaining quarters using their tough defense. That made them victorious in this game.

Meanwhile, the ADMU Blue Eagles are back on the winning column as they vanquished the win-less LPU Pirates, 84-64.

However, Von Pessumal suffered a serious finger injury that forced him to be out indefinitely for the Blue Eagles.
His absence will detrimentally affect Ateneo because he's one of the three point shooters of the team who helps Kiefer Ravena on the scoring end.
