The hardest part of being a coach is to make mandatory changes in a team line-up that seems to work well.
As per FIBA, each of the participating teams in the World Cup should only have 12 players in each of their rosters that's why making one or two changes seem inevitable if a coach wants to get the most out of a team.
Last night, Coach Chot Reyes of Smart Gilas Pilipinas has decided to make some needed changes. He fielded in Paul Lee to replace the injured Larry Fonacier and NBA Veteran Andray Blatche to take the place of Big Man Marcus Douthit as the team's naturalized player.
Lee's insertion to the final line-up is understandable due to Larry's injury while Andray's might appear questionable especially on the part of the Douthit avid fans and the ones who advocate team familiarity and knowledge of the team's game-style. This and other intangibles make Coach Chot's life as Gilas' chief mentor difficult. But he had to make a decision because the tournament is already on the 30th of August in Spain.
By all implication, the two new additions (Lee and Blatche) will join the good old roster that won silver in the FIBA Asia Championship 2013. Thus, the final 12-man line-up of Smart Gilas Pilipinas for the FIBA World Cup 2014 will look like this:
1. LA Tenorio
2. Jayson Castro
3. Paul Lee
4. Jeff Chan
5. Gabe Norwood
6. Gary David
7. Marc Pingris
8. Andray Blatche
9. Junemar Fajardo
10. Jimmy Alapag
11. Ranidel De Ocampo
12. Japeth Aguilar
