New York Knicks fans can now practically say goodbye to NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony after the latter's declaration via his agent Leon Rose that he will exercise his player option.
Carmelo has officially opted out of the final year of his contract with the Knicks earlier today (Monday night in the USA). He is now looking forward to test free agency this summer. Starting July 1, 2014, he is free to entertain the offers of other NBA teams.
In a short but meaningful statement, Melo's agent Leon Rose said: “Carmelo loves being a Knick, he loves the City and the fans. At this stage of his career he just wants to explore his options."
The Bulls, the Heat, the Mavericks, the Rockets and the Cavs are some of the teams that are highly interested in snagging Anthony.
