UE Red Warriors Upset The DLSU Green Archers in UAAP Season 74 Men's Basketball: The Warriors Outran The Archers

Relying mostly on their advantage in speed, the University of The East Red Warriors were able to beat the seemed to be drained DLSU Green Archers, 74-69. UE was able to upset one of the Final 4 favorites this year and who knows, they might win more games because of this morale boosting win against DLSU.

Prior to this game, the UE Red Warriors probably knew that they will not stand a chance against DLSU if they will use a half court offense because DLSU has a taller front line than them. Thus, they opted to run DLSU to the ground. Coach Jerry asked his guards especially his veteran guards, Paul Zamar and Lucas Tagarda to push the ball and to always take good care of their possessions. Fortunately, the two veterans delivered for UE. Their ploy to run a lot in this game proved to be effective against the slower DLSU Green Archers. They were able to score well against the full court pressure defense of DLSU. Just take a look at the scoring per quarters and you'll notice that UE dominated tha scoring of this game because of their great fast-break offense. Here are the scoring per quarters: 19-17, 39-35, 56-52, 72-64.

Paul Zamar led the Red Warriors in this win as he had a total of 19 points, 2 rebounds and 2 steals. Lucas Tagarda on the other hand also pitched in some points but the most important contribution that he gave to his team was his aggressiveness in their offensive sets and his tenacity on the defensive end against the likes of Simon Atkins and Luigi Dela Paz.

As a result of this big upset of UE against DLSU, they now have 2 wins and 7 losses and thus, they will have more chance to be in the Final 4 because they are now only 2 games behind DLSU and UST who both have 4 wins and 5 losses.
