Meralco Bolts Beats Rain or Shine In PBA Elimination Round Philippine Cup Season 36 2010: Survives Elimination Round and Takes 5th Spot Against B-Meg In Playoffs

The Meralco Bolts electrified the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters as they barged into the PBA Philippine Cup 2010 playoffs against the B-Meg Derby Ace Llamados. The Bolts beat Rain or Shine with the score of 125-124.

The game went into a double overtime. The Bolts could have lost in the game if not for Mark Cardona's game winner in the last 4.7 seconds of the game. He shot a long semi-hook from the extended free throw line while being covered by 3 defenders. Thus the final score was 125-124. It was originally 123-124.

They just proved to their doubters that they have matured earlier than they expected, that they are ready to face the defending Philippine Cup champions, B-Meg. In the season they are in the sixth spot, which is just enough for them to proceed in the playoffs.

With the win they will have a date with the B-Meg Derby Ace in the Playoffs which will start on Friday at 5 p.m. and then Alaska will face Ginebra in the second game at 7:30 p.m. Both games will be a best of 3 series.

Mac Cardona had 35 big points in this game. He was helped by the electrifying Chris Ross and the ever reliable Asi Taulava. Gabby Espinas also made some key stops, including his great defense against Sol Mercado.

But despite their tight defense against Sol, he still had 31 points.

Coach Ryan Gregorio of Meralco was very happy that his teachings were followed by his players such as taking it one step at a time and that they should play with integrity. He believes that they will have a great playoff run. That they can win a championship at such a young PBA stint.
