UAAP Season 76 To Start On June 2013 To Give Way To FIBA Asia Championship In August

By Val Marvin G. Macanas

It’s now official. The UAAP Season 76 will open on a much earlier date, June 29, 2013 to give way to the FIBA Asia 2013 which will be held here in the Philippines sometime in August.

The UAAP is one with the Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas (SBP) in preparing for this very rare opportunity to host a big time basketball event like the FIBA Asia Men’s Basketball Championship.

“The collegiate league starts the new season with the centerpiece event of basketball on June 29 at the Mall of Asia Arena,” said Miss Malou Isip, the Athletic Director of UAAP Season 76 Host, Adamson University.

The Philippines was once, one of the strongest basketball teams in the whole of Asia. In fact, we were able to get 5 FIBA Asia Championship titles and 4 Asian Games titles.

But In the last 10 years, we had become less dominant. That’s why when the news came out, saying that we are the host of the FIBA Asia Championship 2013, SBP encouraged everyone to help in the preparation for the said event.

Good thing the UAAP Responded.
