DLSU Green Archers Eliminated FEU: Archers versus Blue Eagles On Saturday!

    By Val Marvin G. Macanas

Yeah, it was a sudden death Wednesday affair between the DLSU Green Archers and the FEU Tamaraws.

The 2 teams split their regular season series and now, they will settle the score via a playoff game.

The game was a battle for the last Final 4 Slot of the UAAP Season 75 Men's Basketball.

Both of their 2 previous games were close ones and now we can be sure that this playoff game will be the same.

The first quarter started with a 6-7 score in the 6:13 mark of the first period in favor of FEU. Jeron Teng answered for DLSU. He started the game with 4 quick pts. to make the game close.

Romeo hit a big 3 to make the count 9-11 in the last 3 mins. of the 1st quarter.

There were a lot a heated exchange of baskets between the two teams. One thing that stood out was the first three pointer of Almond Vosotros a.k.a Vosotres. His first made three pointer boosted the morale of his team, knowing that their three-point shooter is on point againt FEU.

FEU continued to make shots as they had a 10-4 run in the last 2 mins. of the game. 19-13 was the score at the end of the 1st quarter in favor of FEU.

FEU had a well balanced scoring. Almost all the players that coach Bert FLores fielded in the 1st quarter scored a point or two.

It was DLSU's turn to make some shots. They had a 6-0 run in the first 4 minutes of the 2nd qtr. to tie the game at 19-19.

But FEU answered with their own run to make the score 24-21 in their favor. The good thing for DLSU is that their King Archer, Jeron Teng was making his free-throws in this game. He had a 100% freethrow shooting in the first half, 4/4. That's a good sign for DLSU. Due to Jeron's effort, FEU's lead was only 7 points, 35-28 at the end of the first half.

Teng had 10 points for DLSU. He led all scorers from both teams at the end of the first half.

Both teams started the 3rd quarter well. DLSU's big men started to work. AVO dunked the ball emphatically at the start of the 3rd period and it boosted the confidence of his teammates. Norbert Torres a.k.a "The Bear" also chipped in some points in the 3rd. He had several baskets in the shaded lane amounting to 7 points. Although FEU was still in the lead, 52-46 at the end of the 3rd quarter.

In the 4th Quarter, DLSU started better than FEU.

The Green Archers had a 17-0 run. That big run gave them the lead in the 4th quarter, 67-60 with less than 40 seconds left in regulation.

But FEU never gave up. After the time-out Terrence Romeo and RR Garcia unleashed one three pointer each in the consecutive possessions of FEU to cut the lead of DLSU down to just 1 point, 67-66 with a little over 30 seconds left on the game clock.

The Tamaraws fouled Teng in the next play. Teng split his freethrows making the score 68-66.

There's still time for FEU to catch up, but a costly turnover that was committed by Cris Tolomia derailed their chances. They were forced to foul Vosotros. Vosotros made 1 out of his 2 charities, making the score 69-66.

With few seconds left on the clock, Romeo had a chance to launch a desperation shot but it was a brick.

The final buzzer sounded and the DLSU Green Archers won the game via 69-66.

They will face the Ateneo Blue Eagles on Saturday in the UAAP Season 75 Final 4. The game will be held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum at 4:00 p.m..
