Smart Gilas 2 16 Man All PBA Player Pool Released! Take A Look!

Last week 5 more PBA Players were added to the all PBA training pool of the Smart Gilas 2. Well, I consider this as one of the major changes in the Gilas Program considering that they had several amateur players before. The Gilas Team also has a new Head Coach. Coach Chot Reyes has been installed as the new Coach of Gilas. He will replace the internationally renowned coach Rajko Toroman. Now, do you want to see the latest All PBA Pool of Smart Gilas? Then here it is.

They are the PBA Players who agreed to play for Gilas 2.0. As you can see there is only one SMC player in the Pool although a number of them were supposed to be included in the list. Gilas training will start on Tuesday, June 5, 2012.

    1. Mac Baracael
    2. Sol Mercado
    3. Jeff Chan
    4. JV Casio
    5. Jared Dillinger
    6. Ranidel De Ocampo
    7. Kelly Williams
    8. LA Tenorio
    9. Gabe Norwood
    10. Jimmy Alapag
    11. Gary David
    12. Enrico Villanueva
    13. Ryan Reyes
    14. Jayson Castro

Any update on McGee (citizenship)? the Smart management has to consider on getting the service of Javale since he is willing to play for the RP team...coach Chot intends to have a fast pace team by including quick guards and versatile forwards but how can they run if they can not dominate the boards...Just like the previous Smart Gilas team they have Douthit to man in the middle.

In my opinion, not enough talent, lack of height (honestly I prefer Japeth over Enrico. Japeth is tall, can hit outside and inside just need more training and exposure. Enrico is good inside but his height is for a guard/forward of other teams and he has no outside and not that quick), lack of practice and preparation (1 billion% sure). It's like a form of NBA style preparation. THey prepare 2 months before competition but they have the right because they are the best in the world. We are the best in southeast asia only. The team practices in the evening for what? once a week.then cram before the competition starts. Other national teams practice all year long to prepare and give importance to their national team. but here the PBA mother teams are more important than the national team. I've researched that before the PBA started, the Philippines are regulars in the FIBA world cup in the 1950s and 60s. But from then on, its just a triumph in the past. there's nothing wrong in the PBA. It is actually a great program. But the national team should be given utmost importance. The moment that I read that the players will be available as long as there is no PBA season going on. I was already concerned. I actually favor pulling them out of their mother teams. Give them higher pay. With this, they can concentrate for the national team and other basketball players will be given opportunity to shine.Smart Gilas 1 is composed of amateur players with Douthit. they placed fourth because they've been together and practice together regularly. I believe that if the PBA reinforcements have joined them earlier, they could have won the whole thing. preparation is the no.1 key for us because this is a team game. talent and height is secondary. Smart gilas 2 has an edge in talent (a little bit)over gilas 2.although this is clearly not the best talent we have. but they are down in height and preparation. If only they could change their perspective towards preparing for this.then maybe we have a clear shot.

In my opinion, Japheth can do more for the team rather than Enrico Villanueva. He can play the post and he can shoot. I remember in Fiba, evertime Japheth made a dunk all you can hear are ooohhs, and ahhs from the audience.

before mvp said that having guards such as j.v casio in asian competitions is a big liability. now we see his name again together with fellow giants - alapag and castro. at center we have rico villanueva who will just be at the arm pit level of the centers of jordan, iran and even korean and china. problem with the pba is that the dominant centers there are so small - 6'3'6'4 and 6'5. The big centers are just languishing in the bench and not giving the time to develop their self confidence.

I think they should add Slaughter,Fajardo,Slaughter,Eman,Banchero,Pringle,a naturalized player. This line up is a waste of time and money. No need to send them, We all know they will lose. Perhaps sending young players is a good excuse to lose because they are still developing and could be use in the future. Chot was given a shot last time and we all know what happen. Why do we keep on going back instead of moving forward. Get Miami's coach or a young coach. This is the same Powerade team, No need to send this team because we know the results. 7th or 8th Asian games or FIBA. Jones cup they will finish 4th if China, Iran ,jordan, korea,Japan, and the host nation will join then 7th, provided those nations will send their true national team players
