After signing an endorsement contract with Smart Telecoms-one of the biggest Telecom Companies in the Philippines, there are rumors that the 7'0 Washington Wizard JaVale McGee is looking to follow the footsteps of the Providence University Standout and the former 2004 NBA Draftee of the Los Angeles Lakers, Marcus Douthit.
Douthit is now a naturalized Filipino. He became a naturalized Filipino through an act of the Congress that was initiated by Representative Robbie Puno. His naturalization was a big help to the Philippine Basketball Program as he led the Smart Gilas Team to a 4th place finish in the recently concluded FIBA Asia Championship 2011.
Since Smart is under the ownership of a well known Philippine Basketball supporter and lover, the Philanthropist, Mr. Manny V. Pangilinan (MVP), I'm sure that McGee is in good hands. I can also feel that MVP is now making some moves just to convince McGee to undergo a naturalization process.
If ever McGee agrees to become a Naturalized Filipino, he will surely be a member of the Smart Gilas 2.0 Team that will compete in next year's FIBA Asia. He will join other notable Filipino basketball players who came from the amateur ranks and in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
