Philippine U16 (Under 16) Basketball Team Beats Singapore To Win 1st SEABA U16 Title

Congratulations to our Energen Philippine Under 16 Team for winning the 1st Southeast Asian Basketball Association (SEABA) U16 Basketball Title under the guardianship of the legendary PBA point guard Coach Olsen Racela.

The Energen U16 team won 4 straight games to capture the Title in the recently concluded SEABA Tournament. The teams that they beat were Malaysia, Indonesia, Laos and just recently, Singapore. They won convincingly against Malaysia via 91-64, Indonesia via 109-46, Laos via 101-57 and Singapore via 70-52. They were able to sweep the tournament, 4-0 against those 4 teams who participated in the tournament.

People are impressed with what the boys of coach Olsen accomplished at such a young age. They are now saying that coach Racela's U16 team is a strong team because they won the SEABA title via a 4-game sweep and via an average convincing winning margin of 38 points in each of their games. For me, that's not a bad start for a program that was built to further strengthen the international basketball program here in the Philippines.

This SEABA Title that they won will serve as their gate-pass for the upcoming FIBA U16 Men's Championships which will happen in Vietnam on October 2011.

Before I end this article, guys and gals let's all thank these players below for doing their very best in the SEABA U16 Tournament especially San Beda Red Cubs' Arvin Dave Tolentino and Christopher Angelo Vito who averaged 13 points each in the tournament. They are the silent leaders of this special group of Kids.

Here's a picture showing how happy they were after getting the SEABA Title.

Ummm I don't think the last image is of Energen Pilipinas. I think that's the San Beda team that represented the country in the ASEAN Schools Games in Singapore. The SEABA joust was held in Banting, Malaysia.
