The new UAAP commissioner is Andy Jao and he will succeed Commissioner Ato Badolato.
Jao's a La Salle alumnus and ironically he was recommended by an Atenean, Mr. Ricky Palou. That's how Ateneans respect their contemporaries from La Salle.
Jao, is at the same time the Team Manager of Rain or Shine and he's also one of the PBA's most respected commentators right now along with the likes of Mico Halili and Patricia Hizon.
I admire him because he didn't beg off from being named as the commissioner of the UAAP Season 74 despite his very busy schedule.
Jao was elated with his appointment as the new UAAP commissioner. He said that:
“I think they (Ateneo organization) believed that I could do it. And I would like to thank them for that faith in me.”
Jao's experience in the world of basketball is incommensurable. He was a former PBL commissioner during its 1989-1990 season and he's one of the reasons why the Rain or Shine Team in the PBA is slowly gaining many fans.
His attention to details and his awareness with the so called intangibles of the sport are his most valuable assets. Those skills were manifested when he said that:
“I still don’t know the structure of the UAAP system. But I guess they will allow me to oversee the technical committee, particularly in picking the supervisor.”
Personally, I just can't wait to see how he will handle his job and on how he will adapt to the UAAP climate.
