Ginebra Gin Kings Beat Powerade Tigers In Their First Game in 2011 Governors Cup

Last conference Ginebra looked so shaky and fragile, but now that they have Curtis Stinson as their new import, they looked so steady and composed. Stinson's way of playing is very hard to read but the most important thing is that he fits well in the system of Ginebra. To tell you honestly, I had a hard time writing about their first game in the PBA Governor's Cup because I was overflowing with happiness after I saw how great my favorite team is. I really believe that they can make a run for the championship in this year ending conference. In their first game against Powerade, Ginebra won by 12 points, 92-80. This is their first win and I'm sure there will be more to come in the next few days.

In their first game, Ginebra had a furious run in the first half resulting to a 43-30 score. They were able to build a 13 point lead and from then on they never looked back. In the second half Curtis Stinson led his team in taking good care of that lead. He used his leadership and veteran smarts to fend off Powerade. He showed one great aspect of his game which is facilitating well in the many fast break points of Ginebra. He also showed his rebounding skills which he learned from the world famous Rucker Park in New York. He was a legend there and he was known there as a hard working player. Stinson only had 11 points in this game but he showed that he will be the anchor and balancer for Ginebra. To help him in scoring, Ginebra's John Wilson sniped 13 points in this game. He showed great shooting and trememdous hustle in this game.

Ginebra's biggest problem in this conference is their height. They don't have enough big men in their roster. But fortunately, their sweet shooting big man, Yancy De Ocampo had a great game. He had 18 points, 8 rebounds and 1 assist in this game. His points came mostly from the perimeter of the court. The most important thing that he did for Ginebra is that he was able to neutralize the tallest import of the conference, Chris Porter. Porter was their former import and they definitely know how he plays. He used his sheer power in this game and De Ocampo made great use of his height in stopping this monster. If Ginebra will acquire one more big man, I'm sure they will be unstoppable in this conference.

If you're a stats geek, here are the complete stats of this game.
