Smart Gilas Basketball Team Beats Iran In A Convincing Way: Dubai Internal Cup

Source: Manila Bulletin
The Smart Gilas national team claimed its second straight win by downing Iran’s All-Star team, 76-64, to automatically book a seat in the semifinals of the 4th Asian Basketball Association Club Championship on Thursday in Haining, China.

Smart-Gilas Pilipinas had a tough time early in the game against a team that featured eight players from Iran’s national squad, leading by just five-points, 34-29, at halftime break.

However, the Nationals came through with a decisive run through the efforts of American import Marcus Douthit, Chris Tiu, JV Casio, Mark Barroca and Mac Baracael to take control of the game.

The Filipinos were never threatened after that as they gamely responded to the challenge of the tall Iranian squad.

“We beat an Iran team composed of eight national team players. Everyone contributed. It’s a great teamwork,” Smart Gilas team manager Frankie Lim said. Smart-Gilas Pilipinas will face the second placer of the other group in the week-long tournament being used in preparation for this November’s Asian Games in Guangzhou, China.
