The Nike athlete of Filipino descent inspires local basketball players and shows his support for Gilas Pilipinas

Manila, Philippines, May 28 2016 – Nike Basketball athlete Jordan Clarkson made a visit to Manila this weekend to Bring His Game to Filipino Basketball. He inspired young basketball players in Manila, as well as shared a special moment with the Gilas Pilipinas, the Philippines National Basketball team, who are on an incredible journey for a place to compete at the greatest sporting event of 2016.

Clarkson, who is unable to be a part of Gilas Pilipinas on their quest in the FIBA Qualifiers, promised to show his support to the National Team during the unveiling of the Gilas Pilipinas Nike Uniforms last Saturday.

"I will just be there to support. I will be with them like I'm on the team. I'm still on the outside looking in. I wanna be on the court to compete with them and fight with them. I got a lot of trust in them. They can get it done," the Lakers guard declared.

He also dropped in on a young basketball player, Jordan Salandanan, and his team during their training session in preparation for their Small Basketeers tournament on Sunday May 29, 2016.  Clarkson showed them some drills to refine their skills, shared with them an inspirational moment and joined their practice, shooting a few hoops with them at the Moro Lorenzo Gym in Ateneo.

The biggest surprise of the visit was Clarkson launching the Gilas Pilipinas new team uniform with the team at a media-only launch held at Kerry Sports Gym in Taguig. Being the voice behind the roll-call of the Gilas players, he surprised the players with his presence and charged them to do the Philippines proud. “I’m here because I want to share all my knowledge, skills, expertise, whatever it is that I have, to this team as we set our sights on the big games this summer. I bring my game to the Philippines because I want to see you guys shock the world and prove how good Filipino players are. I want each and every Filipino to be proud of what we can accomplish. We’ve got a golden opportunity to recapture our rightful place in the basketball world right here on home soil” said Clarkson during the event.

Clarkson will watch young Jordan Salandanan and his team compete in their tournament to inspire and cheer them on from the sidelines. “Hopefully by sharing my experience with the young ballers, and doing my little share for Gilas Pilipinas, I can inspire the next generation of Filipino players and help the Philippines National team make history one more time,” he said.

After the unveiling of the Gilas Jerseys, Clarkson joined the training session of the National Team at the Kerry Gym inside the new Shangri-La Hotel at the Fort in BGC Taguig.
