Manila, Philippines -- What a way to start the year 2014 for the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles as their skipper, the hard hitting open spiker Alyssa "The Phenom" Valdez bagged the 2013 Best Pinoy Athlete of The Year Award given by Rappler.com.
The ever jolly Valdez bested other big-time athletes like Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao, the Smart Gilas Pilipinas National Team, and the mighty Teng Brothers.
Alyssa has a rare combination of solid skills and overflowing charisma, and because of that, she was able to amass a huge following that never fails to back her up in all of her endeavors in life. No wonder she snagged the much coveted award for athletes.
You can catch The Phenom and the rest of the Lady Eagles in the UAAP Season 76 Women's Volleyball Tournament when it resumes over the coming weekend.
