    By Val Marvin G. Macanas

MANILA – The” Derrick Rose Manila Tour 2013” has reached its conclusion yesterday, but the words of wisdom that D-Rose shared during his press conference at the Marriott Hotel will surely live on.

Derrick Rose, Chicago Bulls’ superstar and the youngest NBA MVP in the whole history of the league shared some interesting basketball tips and motivational words for the Smart Gilas Pilipinas National Team as well as for the aspiring Pinoy basketball players.

Unknown to many, D-Rose is well aware of the recent accomplishment of our National Team (Gilas Pilipinas). They were able to finish 2nd in the recently concluded FIBA Asia Championship 2013, thereby qualifying for the 2014 FIBA World Cup that’s scheduled to happen on August 30, 2014 in Spain.

Rose also cherish the overwhelming joy that Gilas Pilipinas brought to our beloved country. That’s why when he was asked what he can say to our national team, he didn’t hesitate to give some tips.

"Just be calm. Of course, I wish them all the best. But, they have to work really hard and be prepared for whatever," said Rose.

He is right because our team will be facing tougher opponents such as Team Spain and Team U.S.A.. Their players are taller and more athletic so our team has to work double time and prepare really hard for the 2014 World Cup.

He also talked about the die-hard Filipino basketball fans who really love basketball, and that Gilas Pilipinas should not disappoint their solid supporters.

"They can't let themselves be embarrassed in front of the World, especially in front of you guys," Rose insisted.

The tips that Rose shared with the crowd inside Marriott Hotel were very important especially when you take into consideration the fact that he was part of the Team USA that bagged the Gold Medal in the 2010 FIBA World Cup that was held in Turkey.

Rose is also aware of the importance of basketball in the lives of the Filipino Youth. That prompted him to give some tips for the aspiring young basketball players in the Philippines.

“They have to bring in a lot focus, dedication, and always be on tract,” Rose said.

He also highlighted the importance of being mature and learning how to sacrifice for the goals that an aspiring baller should have.

“I have lots of friends who are not as matured as me. They do what they want to do. But me I listen to my mom. I sacrificed a lot. All the good things that I’m doing it’s all because of her. It involves a lot of sacrifice. When you’re tired you just have to continue fighting and working hard. You have to dedicate yourself. Always put a goal. Like me, I wanted to play in the NBA and so I worked really hard and mature early. I always work out in the gym to get better, “ added Rose, who ended his discussion by saying that Patience is everything.
“They got to be patient with themselves. Patience is everything. They just have to work hard and listen to their coaches,” said the Bulls’ franchise player.

After the press con, Rose went straight to the Mall of Asia Arena for the final leg of his Manila Tour 2013. There he played NBA 2K13 with some of his lucky fans.
