CSB Withstood Arellano’s Late Run To Get Their 2nd Win in NCAA Season 89

    By Val Marvin G. Macanas

Manila, Philippines - A terrific performance coming from CSB’s ace player Mark Romero resulted to a much needed win as the Blazers defeated the Arellano Chiefs, 69-62 in their 1st Round meeting in the NCAA Season 89 held at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

CSB got hold of the driver seat in the first 3 quarters, but Arellano made a huge run in start of the 4th quarter to cut down the Blazers’ lead but it was as if CSB got tired of giving up in the latter part of the game. They did a fine job in withstanding Arellano’s late rally to finally cement their 2nd straight victory in the 89th Season of the NCAA.

Mark Romero led the Blazers with 18 pts. and 5 rebounds while Prince Caperal almost single-handedly carried the Chiefs with 20 pts. and 18 rebounds. Unlike Romero who got a lot of help from his teammates like Taha (with 12 pts.), Saavedra (with 12 pts.) and Grey (with 12 pts.), Caperal didn’t get enough support from his teammates. James Forrester didn’t play well in this game as he only notched 10 pts. on 3/15 field-goal shooting.

Coach Gabby Velasco of the Blazers admitted that he’s happy that they won this game, but at the same time he also said that they still have to do well on taking care of the basketball because they committed a lot of turnovers in this game specifically 26 turnovers all in all.

“We’re happy that we got this Win. But Still, we didn’t do what we’re supposed to do. We still committed a lot of turnovers in the last 4 minutes of the ball-game. Hopefully we learn from this game, “ said the CSB Mentor Coach Gabby.

“In the 4th quarter we had a good run offensively and defensively. Somehow in the start of the 4th Quarter we delivered. Paolo played really well. He made some shots and rebounded the ball really well,” added Coach Gabby.

    Notable scorers:

CSB: Romero 18, Taha 12, Saavedra 12 and Grey 12
    AU: Caperal 20, Forrester 10

    Quarter Scores: 18-17; 35-28; 49-45; 69-62
