Rey Nambatac Shines As Letran Defeats EAC in NCAA Season 89

    By Val Marvin G. Macanas

Manila, Philippines - The Letran Knights showed that they are mightier than the EAC Generals via a 79-74 victory.

Raymond Almazan and Mark Cruz played really well in this game as they produced 33 points combined. They showed that they are now the cornerstones of the Letran squad.

But who would have thought that a rookie would step up and take the much needed 3rd scoring option role for Letran in this game.

Letran’s Rookie Rey Nambatac didn’t shy away from the spotlight as he contributed heavily in this victory including a very impressive isolation play with less than 30 seconds left in the game against EAC’s veteran guard Igee King. He was at the top of the key against King. He used a simple ball fake to shake off King and then he finished the play with a floater over the very tall Noube Happi.

He also sank 2 crucial freethrows to seal the win for the Knights. He finished the game with 13 crucial points.

“Ah yung nagdecice na ako na ang ma isolate, ah sabi ko sa sarili ko na kailangan kong patunayan kina Coach Caloy, sa mga teammates ko na kaya kong mag contribute kahit rookie pa lang ako. Sabi nga ni Coach pantay pantay na kami dito sa team. Wala rookies at veterans dito” said Rey during the post game interview.

“Pero yun nga prinove ko lang sa sarili ko pati sa mga nanonood na although I’m just a rookie kailangang may ma contribute man lang ako. Laging sinasabi sakin ni Coach na when you’re free, just take the shot,” added the hot-shot lefty from the Intramuros based team.

Hardwork really pays off. That's what I learned from Rey when I asked him the secret behind his steady shooting.

“Nagttake lang ako ng extra shots every after practice namin. Yun ang secret ko. Hardwork talaga,” shared Rey.

Letran's future is definitely in good hands.

By the way, here's Rey greeting the readers of BallersPinas.Com:
