San Beda Red Lions Beat JRU Heavy Bombers In 2013 FilOil Flying V Pre Season Cup: No Baser Amer, No Problem!

    By Kristina Caramel Sy

The San Beda Red Lions tallied their first win in the 2013 FilOil Flying V PreSeason Cup against the JRU Heavy Bombers with a final score of 67-55.

The Bombers tried to pad on their lead as early as the first quarter courtesy of the efforts of Paolo Pontejos, former San Beda Red Lion. He contributed a lot in this game for the Bombers.

But Ola Adeogun heated up as he listed 8 points all in all in the 2nd quarter alone to cut down JRU's lead and eventually tie the ballgame.

Bombers exploded in the 2nd half led by Paolo Pontejos who sank 10 points in 3rd quarter alone that shocked the Mendiola based squad.

However, San Beda's Rome dela Rosa, the best player of the game, who notched 16 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists, broke their silence during the remaining 3:42 minutes of the 3rd period. His efforts made it possible for San Beda to steal the lead from JRU. From then on they never looked back.

Dela Rosa was instrumental in shifting the momentum to San Beda's side during the 4th and final quarter. He led the Red Lions to their first win in this PreSeason Cup.

Coach Boyet Fernandez admitted that their game today was ugly. But, he was happy for the boys, also for the rookies who stepped up in today's match.

Baser Amer was absent in this game. He will also miss their next game against the UP Fighting Maroons because of his injury. Doctors said that he will have to take a 10-15 day rest.

He wasn't allowed by Coach Boyet to play in the D-league, including the NLEX team practice sessions due to his condition.
