Abigail Maraño Showing Sportsmanship After Ateneo vs. La Salle 2nd Round Match

    By Val Macanas

I had the opportunity to watch the UAAP Season 75 Women's Volleyball 2nd Round Match between the Ateneo Lady Eagles and the DLSU Lady Spikers. It was a very thrilling game despite ending in just 3 straight sets (25-19, 25-23 and 25-21) in favor of DLSU.

It was very thrilling because the girls were giving it their all as evidenced by the close and tight three sets. The crowd inside the SM Mall of Asia Arena were into the game, shouting and cheering most of the time when the volleyball was in the air.

Despite the very impressive victory of the Lady Spikers, they still showed their sportsmanship. Abigail Maraño led the DLSU Lady Spikers in going to the bench of the Lady Eagles after the game to tap the Lady Eagles’ shoulders as if saying Good Job guys.

Sportsmanship and Camaraderie are two of the most important values that a person can learn from engaging into Sports and we can safely say that the Lady Spikers already have it in them as they showed it last Saturday.

The Lady Spikers’ sportsmanship and kindness despite being the number 1 team this Season will serve as a good example to the Youth. Gestures like that will be remembered by the Fans especially the young ones.

Sports can be very competitive especially when rivals meet each other on the court, but the Lady Spikers showed that it can also be a friendly competition at the same time. After all, more friends can mean more fun!
