Nestle Wellness Program For Good Health Not Just For Athletes But For All of Us: + Download The Wellness App

Last Wednesday I got the opportunity to attend the Nestle Wellness Program at the Nestle Maggi Center in Rockwell Makati. I was able to learn a lot of things about proper diet and other important information that can help active people especially the athletes.

What's nice is that Nestle launched "Wellness App" for mobile phones that will help a person have a better life-style through their wellness tips and other useful badges. Just search for the Wellness App in the App Store.

At present, the app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, requiring iOS 5.0 or later versions. Android versions of the app will be available very soon.

Chef Tess Sutilo of Nestle discussed a lot of things about foods, food preparation and the nutritional benefits that you can get from them. Some of the things that I learned are:

    1. You can get Calcium from- Milk (Nestle Fresh Milk),cheese, small fishes with bones such as the small fishes found in Cebu called Dangit, Green leafy vegies.

    2. Put the onion first before garlic to lessen bitterness.

    3. Maggi Magic Sarap is the only seasoning that is complete with herbs and spices.

    4. Beans are rich in protein.

    5. Pag makulay na plate more complete meal because of the vegies. That's what you call "Wellness Plate". Half of your plate dapat glow food (fruits and vegies), 1/4 rice, Go food yan, rich in carbohydrates. Nestle Fitnesse is high in carb.

Chef Tess also introduced 3 recipes that are healthy, nutritious and delicious at the same time.

    1. "Nutty Avocado Smoothie" is a perfect drink if you want to further strengthen your bones and heart because it is rich in calcium and it has essential fats that promote a healthy heart.
    Preparation Time: 10 minutes
    Servings: 2-3

    1 cup avocado meat
    ¼ cup walnut
2 tbsp sugar or to taste
1 cup NESTLÉ Low Fat Milk/NESTLÉ Fresh Milk
    2 cups shaved ice

    1. Combine all ingredients in a blender jar. Blend for 30 seconds or until mixture is fully- incorporated. Serve immediately.

    Nutrition Information (serves 3):
    Using NESTLÉ Low Fat Milk
    Calories: 240 kcal
    Carbohydrates: 12g
    Protein: 6g
    Fats: 19g

    Nutrition Information (serves 3):
    Using NESTLÉ Fresh Milk
    Calories: 252 kcal
    Carbohydrates: 12g
    Protein: 6g
    Fats: 20g

    Good to Know:

    (1) Using NESTLE Low Fat Milk provides you with calcium you need with less fat. If you are conscious about your fat intake, you can choose low-fat milk instead. But if you are only concerned about your calcium intake, it’s good to know that 1 tetra-brick of either NESTLÉ Low Fat Milk/NESTLÉ Fresh Milk meets almost half of your daily calcium requirement. You can consume 2 tetra-brick in a day to meek your 100% requirement. Other food sources of calcium include: other milk products like cheese, yogurt, etc., small fishes (with bones), broccoli, malunggay, and legumes.

    (2) Do you know what fruit contains fat? Avocado is the only fruit that has fat; it is a source of monounsaturated fatty acids which is good to the heart.

    3. Walnut and avocado are both good for your heart.

    Good to Remember:
It is important for kids to drink milk to support bone growth and development, while adults should also continue drinking milk to supply the calcium needed by the body to perform certain tasks like muscle contraction, nerve transmission, and blood clotting.

    2. Refreshing Cornflakes Taco Salad

A new way to enjoy cornflakes: in the form of a crunchy and flavor-packed salad

    Good to Know:

    (1) All NESTLE Breakfast Cereals are made with whole grain. Whole grains provide fiber, vitamins & minerals.

    (2) What is the difference between whole grain and refined grain? Whole grains have intact bran (outer covering), endosperm (starchy portion), and germ (inner portion), in refined grains, during milling, the bran and germ is taken out (bran and germ removed during milling becomes what is commonly known as “darak”). These parts of the grain provide fiber, vitamins, and minerals.

    (3) This recipe can already be considered a “Wellness Plate” where you have:

¼ of plate Go foods – from NESTLÉ Fitnesse
¼ of plate Grow foods – beef, pork & beans
½ of plate Glow foods – Vegetables, you can just add 1 pc of banana or a slice of mango to make it your complete Wellness Plate
