    Ateneo Defeated UE In UAAP Season 75 Despite Having A Cold Start

    The Ateneo De Manila Blue Eagles eked out a win despite having a cold start against the UE Red Warriors in their First Round Match-Up in the UAAP Season 75 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena last Saturday. The final score was 68-51 in favor of the Blue Eagles.

    It was a very tight game during the first few quarters. In facts, the score was 13-14 with 2:24 left on the first quarter clock. It became 18-19 at the end of the 1st quarter. Hernandez of UE made 5 quick points in the First Quarter. He was the lucky hugot of coach Jerry in the first period.

    Both teams started cold in the 2nd quarter. Almost 2 minutes passed before Ryan buenafe made a short jumper at the 8:40 mark of the 2nd period. Making the score 21-18. UE had a 5-2 run but Kiefer Ravena made his 2 freethrows. Thus, we are tied at 34 all with 7 minutes Left in the 2nd Quarter. Juami Tiongson had 6 pts in the 2nd quarter for Ateneo. Galanza and Javier had 11 points and 10 points respective. Galanza sank a couple of 3 pointers in the first half. The score was 37-34 at the end of the 2nd quarter in favor of Ateneo.

    The 3rd Quarter started with Ateneo having a 17-5 run anchored on the 12 points of Slaughter. UE's lefty shooter, Sumido registered 5 points, but his output was negated by the 17-5 run of the Ateneo Blue Eagles midway in the 3rd. The score was 54-39 for Ateneo. Nico Salva and Greg Slaughter scored heavily for Ateneo in the 3rd.

    Ateneo was on a big run, 10-2 in the first 5 minutes of the 4th Quarter. That pretty much sealed the win for them. The final score was 68-51 in favor of the Blue Eagles. Kiefer Ravena was the best player of the game.

    At the end of the game, coach Norman Black said that: It was a frustrating first quarter, but fortunately the boys played as a team in the 2nd half. We pulled off this win. They responded well and we had a great 2nd half.

    With regard to their next game which is against FEU, Coach Norman said that:

    RR, Tolomia and Hargrove are the plyers to defend. It will definitely be a great game.
