Philippines Defeated Malaysia In SEABA U18 Basketball

    By Kristina Caramel Sy

The Energen Pilipinas recorded their 3rd straight win as they crashed the Malaysian Team in the 8th SEABA Championship U-18 game last Friday, June 29, 2012 in Singapore with a final score of 84-65.

La Salle Greenhills standout, Mario Bonleon led the national team in this ball game as he garnered 16 points and 4 rebounds. He was assisted by the former Mapua Red Robin star player and now an NU Bulldog, Rodolfo Alejandro III, who listed 13 points on the score sheet.

It was a close game in the first few quarters. Both teams executed tough defense to stop each other in making baskets. But, Malaysia got their rhythm as their two top scorers Lian Wei Loo and Kit Hoow Liew scored for the team resulting to Energen's 5 point deficit that pressured them to make baskets. Though Energen was able to equalize the score to 16 a-piece via Bonleon's 4 straight points.

Energen managed to get the lead before the 1st quarter ends. They tried to stretch it during the 2nd quarter. However, Malaysia stopped their run.

The Malaysians were able to have their own run and eventually tied the game to end the first half.

A sudden change happened in the 2nd half as Energen nailed an 11 point lead at the end of the 3rd that made the Malaysians struggle in the 4th. Energen kept their double-digit lead that secured their undefeated record in the team standings.

Energen Pilipinas was the defending champs of the league and they are showing their undeniable dominance. They've won 3 straight games. Hopefully they'll be able to go all the way just like what they did last time.
