Ginebra Gin Kings Defeat Alaska Aces In 2nd Face-Off In PBA Season 37: KG Canaleta Shot The Lights Out

Written By: Kristina Caramel Sy; Edited By: Val Macanas

The Ginebra Gin Kings have finally established a 2 game lead against the Alaska Aces in the team standings after they beat them today with the final score of 85-77. KG Canaleta was the one who stepped up in this Big Win of the Kings as he scored a career best in the current season. He had 21 points and 8 rebounds in this game. He was subsequently named as the Best Player of The Game. That was his first Best Player of The Game award this Season. I'm sure the fans of the Gin Kings wants him to continue his fine job. The Kings' record now improves to 5 wins and 5 losses.

From the 1st quarter up to the 4th quarter it was the great outside shooting of the Gin Kings that enabled them to grab the lead against the Aces in several occasions in this game.

During the 1st half, Tony dela Cruz and Bonbon Custodio led their team's offense while at the same time they were also giving their best on the defensive end to stop the Kings and to force them to commit turnovers.

However, the Kings unleashed numerous 3-pointers which gave the Aces a hard time to come back from their biggest deficit which stood at 9 points. That's the great outside shooting of the Kings that I'm talking about. Nice job KG Canaleta!

The last quarter became very intense as the Aces already cut their deficit down to 2 points. The reason behind that was that they had a 10-3 run with 2 minutes and 57 seconds remaining in the ball game. But the Aces committed unforced turnovers during the last 2:09 mins. on the clock that's why the Kings were able to stretch their lead as they launched easy baskets that ended the winning streak of the Aces.

It is also worth mentioning that I noticed the Ginebra fans were rejuvenated in this game against the Aces. They proved Joe DeVance wrong after he Tweeted that B-Meg Fans are now louder than Ginebra's Fans. I saw some fans of Ginebra trooped to the Smart-Araneta today wearing their Ginebra Jerseys. You can also see it on their faces that they were challenged to proved that they are still the biggest and the loudest crowd in the PBA. And I believe that they were successful in doing that.

Here are the scores from PBA.PH:

    GINEBRA 85 - Canaleta 21, Cortez 13, Intal 12, Helterbrand 10, Mamaril 9, Villanueva 7, Caguioa 7, Wilson J. 2, Wilson W. 2, Tubid 2.

    ALASKA 77 - Thoss 13, Custodio 12, Reyes 11, Baguio 11, Dela Cruz 11, Tenorio 10, Baracael 5, Eman 2, Bugia 2, Salamat 0.
