Chris Lutz Helped Petron Beat Barako Bull In PBA Season 37 All Filipino Cup: Lutz Proving That He Can Be The Best Rookie This Season
Chriz Luts has entered the elite radar of those rookies in the past years of the PBA who have made a quick impact despite being a rookie. Well, to name some of those outstanding rookies we have the "Tower of Power" Benjie Paras, Mark "The Spark" Caguioa, "The Demolition Man" Danny Ildefonso and few other PBA Elites.
You know what Lutz has in common with those other personas in the above paragraph? They all maintained a certain level of performance in their rookie seasons. To prove that, let's compare Lutz's performance to Mark Caguioa. I chose Caguioa because they seem to have the same style of playing.
Take note, Caguioa averaged 17.3 points per game in his rookie season. Lutz on the other hand is also on his way to matching or even eclipsing that output. He is currently on a high and with his intensity and energy it seems that he'll be able to maintain his great performance. In his first two games with Petron he is averaging 18 points per game as he has already notched 19 and 17 points in those two games. Take the average of 19 and 17 and you'll get 18 as his average. Wow! If he'll be able to maintain that all season long, he might be able to outclass MC47 or at least he might be able to bag the rookie of the year award especially if Paul Lee will not be able to score well in his next games.
In Petron's game yesterday against Barako Bull, Lutz faced several defenders like Alein Maliksi and Willie Miller, but he was still able to do his thing against them. He out hustled them in getting lose balls, he defended them well as if he was a big man and he out ran them in several fast break lay-ups. Well, that's how superb this super rookie is.
He was a big help in the offensive and defensive end for Petron because he was able to ingeniously patch up the absence of the Blaze Boosters' outside hitter Don Don Hontiveros and with his size he was also able to grab some rebounds and defend well in the shaded lane to patch up the absence of Rabeh and Jay Wash. But more importantly, he has blended well with the style of playing of their point guard Alex Cabagnot. Alex scored 22 big points and Chris added 17 points to help fend off the Barako Bull in the 3rd quarter. Alex and Chris were just too much for the Barako Bull.
Paul Lee, Lutz's rival in winning the rookie of the year award as of the moment, still has to prove that he can handle the defense of the opposing defenders in Rain or Shine's second game against Powerade on Sunday. Lutz has already passed the 2nd game acid test, will Lee also pass it? Let's wait and see.
Rain or Shine will be facing Powerade on Sunday, October 9, 2011 for the first game and then Ginebra will face Alaska in the second game.
