Rajko Toroman Leaves Philippines To Go Back To His Country Serbia: His Coaching Contract Expires On September 30, 2011

Coach Rajko Toroman, the coach who steered the Smart Gilas Team Pilipinas Men's Basketball Team to a 4th place finish in the FIBA Asia Championship 2011 has announced that he wants to go back to Serbia, his mother country. I don't know the real reason why he wants to go back there, but he looks quite sad when he announced his decision especially when he said that his contract with Gilas will already end of September 30, 2011, tomorrow.

But apparently, Mr. Manny V. Pangilinan (MVP), the man behind the Smart Gilas Basketball program immediately cleared the issue behind the sudden decision of Coach Rajko to leave for Serbia. MVP said that:

“Ang plano ni Rajko is to go back to Serbia to rest. Sabi ko go ahead. Gusto niya makipag-usap before he leaves for Serbia, pag-usapan namin what went right, what went wrong with program. But you should take a rest, I told him. Para luminaw ang kanyang pananaw and on my side also, gusto ko rin pag-isipan what went right, what went wrong. So tignan natin. Wala pa namang decision one way or the other.”

It looks like Coach Rajko is quite disappointed about his performance as the head coach of Smart Gilas Team Pilipinas especially when they lost two crucial games against Jordan and South Korea. That's why he is now uncertain if he still wants to be the head coach of Smart Gilas. If he will no longer ask for a contract renewal, Coach Chot Reyes might replace him. Let's just wait and see what will happen in his meeting with MVP in the next few days.
