    Poland Upsets Turkey In FIBA Europe Championship 2011: Berisha For The Win!





    The Polish Team made one of the biggest upsets in the world of basketball last night in the FIBA Euro Championship 2011 after beating the FIBA World Championship 2nd Runner-up Turkey via 84-83.

    Poland played as if Hedo Turkoglu, Enes Kanter, Ersan Ilyasova and Semi Erden weren't playing for the Turkish Team. The Polish team was playing spirited in this game. They won the first quarter via 17-14. The Turkish player were missing some important shots because the Polish players did a great job in defending the key players of Turkey. The 6'10 star player of Turkey, Hedo Turkoglu had a hard time in scoring that's why they only scored 14 points in the first quarter.

    In the second quarter, the Polish Team dominated the Turkish in terms of points in the paint. Imagine, the Polish Team was able to score 12 points in the pain while the Turkish team only had 4 points in the shaded lane. That led to the 39-35, 2nd quarter final score in favor of Poland.

    In the third quarter, the Turkish Team made a little run to stem the tide. The Turks used their height, as they fielded in Asik and Kanter at the same time. Asik made a great dunk while their shooter, Onan made a three to tie the ball game at 43 all. The Turks were able to sustain their momentum but they made some crucial turnovers that kept the Polish Team in the game. At the end of the 3rd period the score was 62-61 in favor of Turkey.

    In the fourth quarter, Hedo Turkoglu started to work. He made back to back three pointers that gave the Turks a 4 point lead, 68-64. But, Poland's Berisha didn't back down. He had engaged in a shootout with Turkoglu. The shootout resulted to a thrilling exchange of leads. It came down to the last 1 minute and 42 seconds of the 4th quarter wherein Turkoglu made a three pointer to beat the 24-second shot clock to make the score 81-77 in favor of Turkey. But Berisha didn't shy away from the challenge. He also made a a couple of outside shots and one of those two outside shots was the game winner. He managed to give the lead to Poland just in the nick of time, 84-83. They've just completed a hard earned game upset against the very strong Turkish Team. The best player award was given to Berisha who had 21 points all in all in this game.
