UST Tigers Beat DLSU Green Archers in UAAP Basketball August 25, 2011: They're Now Solo in the 4th Spot

The UST Growling Tigers won a very important game against the DLSU Green Archers earlier today in the UAAP Season 74 Men's Basketball. The final score was 60-52 in favor of UST.

The win came when the Tigers needed it the most as it enabled them to grab the 4th spot in the current UAAP team standings. They now have 5 wins and 5 losses while DLSU goes down in the 5th spot with 4 wins and 6 losses.

This game between the Tigers and the Green Archers was a lot different from their their game in the first round wherein DLSU dominated UST right from the get go and until the final buzzer. In this game UST played smarter and they played with more discipline than the Green Archers. The Green Archers only led once in this game. They led 1-0 in the first few minutes of the first quarter, but when UST made a field goal, the score became 2-1. Since then, UST never looked back to DLSU. Oh, I forgot, DLSU also made a little run in the latter part of the 3rd quarter to cut UST's lead down to 4 points, 44-40, but UST was able to fend them off using their offensive rebounding prowess. They piled up several second chance points against La Salle en route to winning the game in the 4th quarter.

What I notice in this win of the UST Tiger was that they were more disciplined in this game compared to their previous games. They only incurred 9 turnovers in the first half and their shot selection was better than before. Jeric Fortuna was the main reason why they have fewer turnovers in this game. He was able to handle the ball well that's why they were able to beat La Salle's patented pressure defense. He was also able to find his open teammates well. Jeric Teng on the other hand showed his clutch shooting in this game. He made two back breaking 3-pointers in the 4th quarter to finally seal the win for UST. All in all he scored 14 points in this game. And also, on top of those, they also made a great job in out rebounding the big men of DLSU. Karim Abdul, Melo Afuang and Chris Camus dominated their counterparts from La Salle.
