UAAP Referee Suspended for Wrong Calls In Ateneo vs. La Salle First Game in UAAP Season 74

"Sample picture of a referee officiating a UAAP game...."

As early as now the new UAAP Commissioner, Andy Jao, is cleaning the league's officiating system as he recently suspended a referee because of the erratic or wrong calls that he made in the Ateneo Blue Eagles vs. De La Salle Green Archers first round match in the UAAP Season 74 last July 16, 2011, Saturday.

    Andy Jao said that:

"I will recommend the suspension of Amado Soriano who made the questionable calls during the Ateneo-De La Salle match last Saturday at the Araneta Coliseum, which the Blue Eagles won, 81-72."

Jao believes that the said referee made 2 erratic calls such as the fouls that he called on Ateneo Blue Eagles' Juami Tiongson and Kiefer Ravena in the 4th quarter.

Fortunately, according Jao, the wrong calls didn't affect the outcome of the game. What he wants is to further improve the officiating quality of the UAAP that's why he's pushing for the suspension of the said referee.

The said referee, Mr. Antonio, will no longer be allowed to officiate in the Men's basketball games. If he will be given a second chance to officiate, he will only be allowed to officiate in the juniors and women’s basketball games.

It's just business, nothing personal against a ref who really made ultra-obvious squabbles anyway.

IKAW ang feelers mehn, feel mo hindi affected ang player at ang coaches who practiced for months only to be betrayed by a referee. tsk tsk.

More like to refs who will call stupid fouls, or not call the calls that should be called, beware!

Ngayon lang ba kayo nanood ng UAAP? Last year, Adamson almost won against Ateneo if not for a bum call by the ref. The refs were then suspended. Then 3 years ago, there was the suspension of the refs in the FEU DLSU game when the refs failed to call a foul by JV Casio on Benedict Fernandez's attempt from beyond the 3 point line.

When officiating messes up a good game, the refs should be punished particularly when the rumors of game fixing are rife.

"No formal complaint was filed by either teams but Jao and his staff took it upon themselves to take action. They reviewed the tape of the game yesterday and would write supervisor Romy Guevarra and the UAAP board about their decision later this week."
