San Beda Red Lions Beat UST Tigers Via Blowout In FilOil 2011 Premier Cup To Secure Top 4 Spot In Group A

Depite Jeric Fortuna's 22 points and Jeric Teng's 19 points, the UST Tigers still failed to keep up with the roaring San Beda Red Lions. The Red Lions win the score of 85 to 72. The game started with San Beda's 7-0 run in the first quarter. Franky Lim's son, Melo Lim started out strong. He had 2 straight three pointers that gave San Beda a comfortable 6 point lead. From then on San Beda never looked back. They've got their game face on in this game as they've just sent UST back to EspaƱa, worrying if they can still be in the quarterfinals of FilOil 2011. If La Salle wins later against Ateneo, UST will be eliminated they will not advance in the quarterfinals. If they could have just beaten San Beda, they are now in the quarterfinals but they lost and so, La Salle still has an outside shot to enter the quarterfinals.

I was wondering why UST was not playing well in this game and I saw the bench of UST and coach Pido Jarencio wasn't there. Coach Cantojos replaced him just for today's game but still I believe that the fatherly image of coach Pido was the biggest absence in this game. Also, UST's main center, Karim Abdul was not in his usual dominating self in this game. He didn't have his usual scoring and rebounding game. Fortuna and Teng were the only bright spots for UST in this game. Their big time rookie, Kevin Ferrer also struggled in this game. He struggled to shoot the ball and his slashing game was not there. I saw how his legs move, he still needs to strengthen and develop those including his upper body because he can't withstand the defensive pressure of the big men of San Beda such as Kyle Pascual and Dave Semerad.

Melo Lim was the biggest player in this game. He had 11 points and 2 assists to help San Beda get their 5th win in FilOil. With the win, the Red Lions are now sure of a quarterfinal slot and they are now in the Top 4 in Group A along with Ateneo and San Sebastian.

With this lost of the UST Tigers, La salle now have a chance to be in the quarterfinals if they will beat the Ateneo Blue Eagles later. The quarterfinals will start on Monday. The top teams in Group A will go against the lower seeded teams in Group B and vice versa.
