Kevin Ferrer UST Tigers New Superstar For 2011 UAAP 74 As They Beat DLSU Green Archers In FilOil Pre-season Basketball Cup

The UST Tigers are now back in the winning column as they start the 2011 FilOil Flying V Pre-season Premier Cup with a huge win over the overhauled DLSU Green Archers. The Tigers won in a convincing way with the score of 79-70. Jeric Fortuna, Carmelo Afuang, Clarke Bautista and Kevin Ferrer had a great game.

Fortuna had 20 points. He had a 4 out of 9 shooting from the three point area and he dominated the guards of DLSU in getting rebounds. He collected 8 rebounds.

Coach Pido delighted to the fact that his boys had a great shooting game. Carmelo Afuang almost had a double-double game with 19 points. The shooting of Clarke Bautista also burned the Green Archers. He had 16 points. Although I noticed that his shot lacks back spin. If he will work more on his shooting particularly his stroke, he will be the next Pido Jarencio.

The new mammoth of the Tigers, Kareem Abdul, a 6'9 Nigerian, also provided the intangibles for the Espana based squad. He had 3 huge blocks and he changed several inside shots because of his huge size. But in a way, he struggled in this game because of foul trouble. He was so mad when he received his fifth personal foul. He went out of the game earlier than expected. He kicked a cup of water in disgust. But nonetheless, he solidified the core of the UST Tigers.

The Tigers had a commanding 47-33 halftime lead. The Green Archers went out from the dug out with a purpose. Their vocal leader, Joshua Webb said that they will have to win this game or else they will suffer in their next training session. They will run several suicides if they will lose this game.

Jeric Fortuna showed his on-court leadership skills as he talked to his teamates if there are problems in their play. He is slowly coming out of his shell. He is the point guard of this team that's why he should step up in every facet of his game.

The sought after rookie of UST, Kevin Ferrer had a stellar game as he showed that he can be the next go to guy of UST come crunch time. He is the new Jojo Duncil of UST. He nailed a back breaking step back three point shot to seal the win for UST.

Simon Atkins and the new center of La Salle, Norbert Torres scored 11 points each. Jovet Mendoza, the silent assassin of DLSU scored 15 points for the Taft based squad.
