    By Val Marvin G. Macanas

Antonio Lining, the pride of the Philippines is now the number 1 ranked professional billiards player in the whole world.

He snatched this number 1 rank after placing 2nd in the recently concluded Philippine Open Pool Championship held at SM Megamall. He lost to Ralph Souquet, but due to points system, he will still gain enough points to get to that world number 1 spot.

Ian Anderson, the World Pool Billiards Association president was the one who announced that Lining is the new number 1 player in the world of Billiards.

Lining will succeed the former number 1, Django Bustamenta, a fellow Filipino. We're indeed a dominant force in this sport.

Lining's humble beginning started when when he won a gold medal in the 2002 Busan South East Asian Games.

Lining said that, this is his first time to be world number 1 and that his career has been a mixture of ups and downs. Good thing that he finished among the top 5 in the China Open. It boosted his momentum.

Dennis Orcullo is also moving up in the world ranking as he will soon be on the 2nd spot after Lining. Bustamante continues to go down in the world rankings.
