Smart Gilas Pilipinas is aiming to have a 4 game winning strak as they face the newly revamped San Miguel Beermen. Earlier this evening they played against each other in the San Juan Arena. This is one of the biggest blow out game in PBA history. Smart Gilas beat the Beermen with a 30 plus points advantage. The score was 109-68 in favor of Smart Gilas. They are now closer to having an outright playoff berth in this very short Fiesta conference.
Marcus Douthit had a double-double game with 17 points and 14 plus rebounds. He has been playing the center spot very well for Smart Gilas. He also had several blocks. Ababou and Barroca both have 17 points each. Ababou got hot in the fourth quarter. The former UAAP MVP made several three point shots. His girlfriend Therlyn Alcuitas was so happy with her boy's terrific performance.
Smart Gilas had a great three point field goal percentage. Lassiter, Lutz, Barroca, Tiu, Baracael and Ababou had a great three point shooting. If this kind of shooting will continue, Gilas will be a big problem for other teams in the league. Barocca was the best player of the game. He played like Chris Paul in this game wherein he scored several perimeter shots and he dished off some nice assists to his teamates. Gilas has a one two punch in the pick and roll. Douthit can roll straight to the basket but if the opposing team would just prevent him in doing that, there's Mac Baracael and Chris Tiu who is ready to shoot the three pointer from the high arc.
The Beermen didn't know what hit them. They almost lost all their cool. Lordy Tugade almost punched the unsophisticated Douthit.
Beermen's import David Young tried to carry his team on his shoulder but Gilas was just too overpowering. Their fire power is unmatchable. The Beermen really missed Don Don Hontiveros' sweet shooting and defensive prowess.
Young poured in 15 points and Washington and Al-Hussaini both had 13 points each.
