The last time that these two teams met DLSU prevailed over the embattled UST Tigresses. Aiza Maizo was injured and she wasn't able to give her 100 percent and Maru Banaticla was not able to play because of injury. The blocking of DlSU was also superb. With Gumabao and Alarca patroling the net they have been unstoppable. DLSU won in that game and they won it via 3 straight dominating sets. The complete set scores were, 25-20, 25-19, 25-12.
The receive of UST was the suspect in that lost against the taller DLSU players. UST failed to receive well the attacks of Paning Mercado, Cha Cruz. If UST wants to win in their game later this afternoon, they will have to receive well. Judy Caballejo should step up in this game because she has been on a slump.
The super rookie of La Salle, Mischelle Gumabao has been playing really great. She is good in killing the ball and she is also a solid blocker.
UST must put more force on their spikes if they want to beat La Salle. A strong and hard block can only be broken by sharp attacks coupled with force and pressure.
Although the result of this game would not affect the current Final 4 team standings, the winner would attain a momentum that is very important in winning a championship.
Last year, DLSU is also the top seeded team in the UAAP women's volleyball yet UST, the second seeded team beat them in the Finals. I am sure that DLSU doesn't want that to happen again. But with a complete line-up, UST has an outside shot to do it one more time.
