Here are the Highlights of UAAP Cheerdance:
The UAAP Cheerdance Competition happens annually. It's just a one day event but the preparation involves an all year training. It's a very imprtant day for the cheerdancers of the UAAP Schools because not only can they show their talents in national television but also they can give back to their schools who gave them their scholarships. However it does not count in the tabulation to determine the overall champion school in the UAAP. It will be shown live Studio 23. This year, it will be aired at 1 p.m. sharp.
De La Salle plans to start the cheerdance program with an audience roll call. After the roll call of schools the audience or rather the respective students from the different schools would be asked to chant their famous cheers, such as the Go Uste and the One Big Fight. However, the dancers of their respective pep squads are not yet shown to the audience and televiewers until their performance. The sequence of the roll call are random and solely the discretion of the hosts or producers.
The order of performance is determined by draw lots. The courtside reporters of the participating schools are then asked to report how their team trained and how they prepared emotionally and physically for the big fight. Along with the courtside reporters are Boom Gonzales and he's usually with a famous actress. Last year it was Megan Young.
Only the champion and first and second runners-up are announced at the end of the competition. Except in 2008, the host would reveal the average scores before announcing the winners. University of Santo Tomas has the most championships with 8 followed by University of the Philippines with 5.
Far Eastern University is the current defending champion. From 2003 to 2008, only University of Santo Tomas, University of the Philippines, and Far Eastern University have landed on the top 3 spots. The University of Santo Tomas did not make it in the top 3 for the first time in 2009. The 2008 Samsung UAAP Cheerdance Competition was the most attended UAAP event with a record-breaking 23,443 paying audience.
