Adamson University Lady Falcons Beats San Sebastian: Nears V-league Title

MANILA, Philippines — Adamson University regained its fiery form in the crucial fifth set to frustrate San Sebastian-Excelroof for the third straight game, 25-13, 25-17, 30-32, 21-25, 15-13, and inch closer to ruling the 7th Shakey's V-League second conference on Thursday night at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Lady Falcons blew a 2-0 set lead but recovered their bearing just in time behind the gutsy plays of Michelle Laborte, Nerissa Bautista, and Angela Benting to move within a win of clinching their second title.

Riding on the solid performance of Mary Jean Balse, Lyceum made short work of Far Eastern University, 25-18, 25-19, 25-20, and gained a headstart in their own best-of-three series for third place.

The 26-year old Balse was almost unstoppable at the net, pouring in 25 hits in just three sets as the Lady Pirates to secure third place for the third time since joining the league in 2004.

"Despite losing the last two sets, wwe're still confident we can comeback," said Adamson University mentor, Dulce Pante, whose team has now extended its amazing winning run to 11 continuing its win in the eliminations.

Adamson can follow up its title win in the 2008 first conference with another win on Sunday.

Bautista and Laborte pumped in 22 points apiece, while Benting had 21 as the Lady Falcons took control of the fifth set after opening an 11-6 lead.

The SSC lasses, however, did not give up easily as they managed to tie the count at 13-all behind the forays of Thai import Jaroensri Bualee and Analyn Benito.
