Ferdinand Injury

Office Map

Rio Ferdinand plays for the Manchester United. He plays at centre back for the team. During the Premier League in 2010 rio ferdinand became the captain ball of the England national team. But with the injury that he received before that year's world cup, he was replaced by the liverpool team captain Steven Gerrard. Unfortunately after a year of rehabilitation, rio ferdinand's torn ligament injury on his knee hasn't fully healed, making him illegible for this year's world cup 2010. The incumbent coach of the England national team, with his high hopes, were all downtrodden by the sad news that rio ferdinand won't be able to play for the team. How unfortunate.

Fomrer England captain Terry Butcher has warned Rio Ferdinand's withdrawal is a "hammer blow" to the nation's World Cup hopes.

Ferdinand, 31, was provisionally ruled out of the tournament after picking up knee ligament damage in the team's first training session since arriving in South Africa. As skipper, he was expected to lead the push to bring the trophy back to England for the first time since 1966.

Although Tottenham Hotspur's Michael Dawson has been drafted in by manager Fabio Capello, Butcher insisted there is no natural replacement for the Manchester United player.

"It's a massive blow. He's the captain of his country and as a centre half he's at the heart of the defence. He's a leader," Butcher told Sky Sports News.

"He'd been quoted saying there are no excuses for this World Cup and making amends for previous debacles and it's a hammer blow. All Capello's plans are now going to be up in smoke really."
