The most prestigious basketball league in the Philippines, the Philippine Basketball Association popularly known as the PBA ushers in a new deputy commissioner.
The new deputy commissioner's surname says it all. He belongs to the very sports-minded clan known as the Salud. The head of the clan, attorney Rodrigo “Rudy” Salud, was a former commissioner of the PBA. And to continue their unwavering will to promote the further enhancement of the Philippines' sports program, one of the sons of Rudy Salud, attorney Chito Salud has just been appointed unanimously by the PBA Board of Governors as the new deputy commissioner of the PBA.
Chito Salud has many sporting experiences to back him up if somebody questions his track record and credentials. He has served as a steward of several pro-leagues in and outside the Philippines. The t.v. ratings,the tickets sold and the popularity of those pro-leagues has increased significantly by virtue of his leadership and strategic planning.
Chito Salud is at his ideal age when he became the deputy commissioner of the PBA. He is youthful enough to lead the PBA and make it the king of primetime television. His rival for the postition was Lambert Ramos who was a marketing genius.
The current PBA commissioner, Sonny Barrios didn't go into the selection process like chito salud and lambert ramos because the previous votes counted for those two didn't reach its required number that's why the PBA board of governors chose the entrust the leadership to barrios, appointing him as the Officer-in-Charge and later appointed as the Commissioner of the league.
In the leadership of Sonny Barrios, Chito Salud served as his assistant and consultant. Salud focused to fix the officiating problems of the league's referees and the relationship of the teams particularly the players with their fans in and outside the court.
When Chito Salud was informed of the said appointment he said “I don’t know anything. Nobody from the PBA has called me and informed me. I will wait for some official word from them.”
The said appointment was with the approval of Sonny Barrios although two of the members of the board of governors who wished not to be identified said that the appointment was against Barrios' will.
The PBA Chairman, Lito Alvarez called Salud after learning that majority of the pba committee voted for his appointment and Salud initially accepted the position. But Chito Salud will have to meet personnally with Sonny Barrios to make the appointment formal.
From being a ball boy to being a deputy commissioner, Chito Salud's life has been an inspiration to all of us.
